Do you know what happens when you place your laptop on your lap?
Laptops are indispensable to modern humans it seems, just as mobile phones. In history, there has probably never been a better productivity tool which is as portable and powerful. Names can be deceiving though. Avoid placing the “laptop” on your lap. Unless, of course, you prefer the exposure to harmful EMR Electromagnetic Radiation.
Laptops actually emit EMRs in various frequencies, and they are suspected to be harmful to your body.
Take some time and watch the video down below.
See how strong the emittance by some of the most popular laptops out there is?
Your organs, of course, receive an unhealthy dose of electromagnetic radiation. Keeping it close to your belly (no matter how big or small that belly is) actually should be a big no-no. Pregnant women should take particular care of placing themselves so close to emitting electronics.
Not convinced yet? Here are six more reasons if you are not yet convinced.
1. It is harmful to the reproductive organs
Using a laptop is commonplace, widely popular and well-accepted everywhere. However, the wireless signals it receives and emits are potentially harmful. Keeping the laptop in your lap for long periods of time can actually make you risk your reproductive capacity, it can pose risks on male’s sperm count and female’s egg release.
Research in Argentina showed that a laptop nesting close to your testes potentially damages the DNA of sperm cells, which is not always a good thing besides having sweaty balls (also not great).
In another study conducted by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine found laptops on your lap may affect fertility:
“To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate the direct impact of laptop use on human spermatozoa. Ex. Vivo exposure of human spermatozoa to a wireless, Internet-connected laptop decreased motility and induced DNA fragmentation by a non-thermal effect. We speculate that keeping a laptop connected wireless to the internet on the lap near the testes may result in decreased male fertility.” In plain English: Keep your balls to the wall and not the laptop.
2. There might be potential harm of cancer
Swiss researchers, Drs. Andreas Arnold and Peter Itin from the University Hospital Basel found hot laptops lead to skin damage, and since EMR can alter genetic information, cause skin cancer.
A dermatologist, Anthony J. Mancini thinks such skin inflammation can potentially increase the chances of squamous cell skin cancer, which is more aggressive than more common forms of skin cancer. Besides frying your skin and scarring you for life scientists conclude testicular and ovarian cancer could also be more likely if you keep that laptop on your legs too often for too long.
3. Causing neck and back pain
Hunching over that laptop on your lap will cause pain in the back and neck. Indeed, nearly 76% of our customers using the Electro Pain Relief Pad admit to pains resulting from time spent in front of their laptop. The solution? Don’t use your laptop in bed, put it on your desk and when selecting a chair to go with your desk, choose one that “feels right” for keeping you upright. Regular breaks will help you get your body loosen up and prevent stiffness that might occur after spending a lot of time staring at the screen.
4. May disturb your Sleeping Patterns
You can probably recall a time when you laid in bed and decided to grab your laptop for a quick online search or just to watch one final episode of Game of Thrones before you doze off. Actually, the exact opposite might be true. The cold artificial light flowing from a typical computer screen is known to suppress the release of melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone which regulates sleep patterns.
If you’ve been suffering from insomnia for longer periods of time, maybe swapping laptop for a book or magazine for a while can help you get those valuable zzzz’s.
Still not satisfied, well then try the Easy Sleep as it gently massages 3 acupuncture points on your wrist known by Chinese ancients to have sleep inducing effects. A 20-minute therapy before bedtime and you will easily fall asleep and enjoy that deep slumber.
5. It can lead to pregnancy issues
Prolonged laptop use can affect women’s fertility and ability to reproduce. It can delay egg production and make it extra difficult for them to conceive.
And if they have conceived the continued use of a laptop on their laps or tummy has potential risks. The EMF Radiation can cause health issues on the fetus they’re carrying. When these babies are born they may show signs of congenital and developmental problems.
The EOHP found that mother and fetus are exposed to higher amounts of EMRs by laptops than those found in close proximity to high-voltage power lines or video screens. Women who use laptops in close body contact are at risk of detectable impairment to the health of their offspring.
6. It can cause skin burn and itching
If you spend a substantial amount of time on your laptop, working, reading or just watching movies, you are exposed to a high risk of developing a “toasted skin syndrome”. A medical report has found that placing devices like laptops next to the skin for prolonged periods of time can lead to an unusual-looking mottled skin condition or rash caused by long-term heat exposure.
This condition is also known as “erythema ab igne” develops over time depending on how much the laptop is used on the lap and how hot the bottom surface becomes. It’s generally harmless and resolves itself once you reduce your laptop toasting sessions, but can leave skin pigmentations which appear darker than the surrounding skin.
So, there you go: Six reasons not to place your laptop on your lap, especially when you are connected to Wi-Fi. Try to place it on a work desk or table to keep yourself at a safe and sensible distance from the device.
